Sin in Linen Pop Up w/ The Belfry Oddities and Villanelle Floral Reception THIS Saturday, October 20th 6 to 9pm This October we celebrate the Full moon in Taurus, Samhain, Halloween, All Saint’s Day and Day of The Dead with and installation by three local businesses who embody the beautiful darkness of this time of year. Sin in Linen has been providing soft goods with hardcore style since 2004. Sandy Glaze, the founder of Sin in Linen, was influenced by alternative style from an early age. From world travel, to pinups, to rock ‘n roll. Founder Sandy Glaze sees Sin in Linen as more than just a company; it's a place where you can share your love of stylishly sinful designs with a likeminded community. The Belfry is a unique on-line shop in Seattle, offering a variety of visually interesting items from the mysterious and macabre to the beautiful and intriguing. Specializing in Victorian era mourning pieces, vintage taxidermy, human and animal bones and other items which reflect the fantastic realm of natural history. Villanelle Floral Company is a full-service floral design studio in West Seattle, Washington, for those who have a story to tell, and know the special impact that custom, local and seasonal florals can make. I am one of the lucky women who has never been raped or seriously sexually assaulted. Sexual harassment, yes. What female human body hasn’t been cat called, objectified, or otherwise judged in a dehumanizing manner? I am a daughter of a sexual abuse survivor. My mother’s father became a violent alcoholic after WW2. He molested her and all of her sisters. And my mom passed down abuse and trauma to me. I am a survivor of physical, emotional and sexual abuse. l’ve been invalidated, blamed for it, and shamed. If you didn’t grow up in a dysfunctional or abusive family and get patriarchal conditioning at home, you got it at school. In church. Watching TV. From the garbage media fed to you to destroy your self worth and program you to be a terrified, approval-seeking, people-pleasing shell of a person. And if we dare to say no, to express ourselves authentically, or to even talk about what happened to us, we are strung up, hated, questioned, fired. And always blamed. Hearing white men in this god damned joke of a government eternally get to whine their way out of any kind of accountability for theft, rape, and murder makes my blood boil, as women and people of color are eternally blamed for whatever violation is done to them. I am so tired of hearing these stories. Whether whispered, screamed, or cried, The Man does not listen. He does not hear no. He does not grant mercy. He rips babies from mothers, bombs villages, poisons rivers, rapes and pillages, and gets to advance his career, accumulate wealth and power, and pass it down to other white men. We are left to do the work. We are the ones who have to pay. The ones trying to heal and salvage our broken selves and this world. I am tired of not being heard, respected, valued, supported, trusted, loved. I am tired of not being believed. I am tired of how hard I have to fight for myself, for healing, for what I believe in, and for what I want to see in the world. I am sure you are too.
